Join The Band® – Rockin’ The Roxy 2025: Concert Recap
After a five-year break due to COVID, Join The Band® made an epic return to the iconic Roxy Theatre — and what a weekend it was!
🎸 A Rocky Start (Literally)
Saturday morning threw me a curveball — I woke up to a low tire on the U-Haul. A failed attempt at a gas station only made it worse. Still, I managed to get the gear to the venue. By the end of the show, the tire was toast, but I got the truck home safely. U-Haul later found a massive nail and replaced the tire and rim.
Crisis averted — barely! Truck issues on show day are one of my biggest nightmares.
🙌 Huge Thanks to Our Team
We couldn’t have pulled this off without our incredible crew. Big shout-out to:
Trent, Ryan, Taylor, David, Michael, Bianca, Miriam, Brandon, and Scotty — you all did a fantastic job supporting the bands and keeping the show running smoothly.
We arrived both days at 7:15 AM and had the stage fully set up in just 45 minutes — NASCAR pit crew style! That extra time gave us breathing room for sound checks and troubleshooting, and made a huge difference.
🎶 A Legendary Venue + Amazing Crew
The Roxy staff and tech team were top-notch — easily one of the best we’ve worked with in our 27 years. Professional, punctual, and focused on the details. We’re grateful for their support and partnership.
💡 Real-World Experience for Every Student
Performing in a venue like the Roxy gives students meaningful, hands-on experience with:
Adapting to different room acoustics
Performing under pressure
Collaborating as a team
Building confidence on stage
Every venue sounds different. Learning to adjust — from dead rooms to live, echo-heavy spaces — is part of becoming a seasoned musician. The Roxy was a fantastic classroom for learning how sound changes in a live setting, especially as the audience fills the room.
🌟 Standout Moments
We saw so many breakthrough moments — those “lightbulb” instances when a student really locks in and starts owning the stage. That’s the magic of live performance.
Of course, a few slip-ups happened (as they always do), but what stood out was how well students recovered — calmly, professionally, and with focus.
That’s what performance teaches: resilience in the moment.
⚠️ A Few Areas to Improve
1. Music Stands
We saw a few too many music stands on stage. We understand they feel safe, but they also block the connection between the performer and the audience.
Our advice? Ditch the stand. Memorize your parts and perform!
We’re strongly considering phasing out stands for concerts. It’s a push to help you grow as a performer. 😎🎵👀
2. Tuning on Stage 🎸
Guitarists — come on, man! 😎 Please tune before you get on stage.
A quick check is fine, but full-on tuning on stage before the set disrupts the performance flow.
.
👏 Wrapping Up
Thank you to everyone who participated in this incredible weekend. Your dedication, effort, and passion made Rockin’ The Roxy 2025 a huge success.
We’re proud of every one of you.
Looking forward to seeing you all back at the studio!
