David Ferguson
Guitar teacher
There are several reasons I love to teach. Perhaps the easiest and
most obvious is I’m really very good at it. I’ve always had a knack
for being able to take people in logical steps from point A to point
Z. On guitar this translates to beginner to advanced and all stages in
between.
Another reason is teaching involves the one thing in the world I’m truly passionate about--playing the guitar. I never tire of it. I’m always willing to play another song. My students always tell how obvious it is that I love my job.
The final reason is the most rewarding--helping people and knowing I’ve made a difference in their lives--on so many levels. You would never guess how many calls and letters and invitations I get each year from students who took music lessons 5, 10 15, even 25 years ago asking me to paritcipate in this or that, advice on something, etc! I have a drawer full of testimonials from students and parents since I began teaching--all of them singing my praise. You do that for 25 years and you would love your job, too.
In 1986 Hal Leonard published David's first book, Country Fingerpicking, and followed the next year with Fingerstyle Blues. David is currently working on a series of fingerstyle books demonstrating his considerable skill as an arranger and spotlighting the best composers of the 30s and 40s.
